#SportNews : Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema denies that he ever came close to joining Arsenal
It was one of the most tedious transfer rumours of the summer. Arsenal needed a striker and were developing a habit of making annual marquee signings.
But the Premier League giants instead became the only club in the top five leagues to not sign an outfield player with goalkeeper Petr Cech being their star buy.
Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was the player who was most often linked with the Gunners. Edinson Cavani and Gonzalo Higuain also frequented rumour mills.
The France forward didn’t move to the Emirates but did he come close? No. Speaking to French TV show Telefoot, Benzema poured cold water on the story.
When asked if he was in talks with Arsene Wenger about a move, Benzema said:“Not at all. I’m not going to repeat myself every time. I’m at the best club in the world and I’m going to continue to work every year. I’m happy where I am.”
Having missed most of the last campaign through injury, the 27-year-old is approaching what many would expect to be his peak at Madrid.
