US Open: Novak Djokovic Beats Kyle Edmund In Style

Posted: 04 Sep 2016 11:24 PM PDT

Djokovic is back and he finally played a whole match without his opponents retiring. The world no. 1 made light work of Kyle Edmund with a 6-2 6-1 6-4 fourth-round win to end Edmund’s remarkable run at the competition.

Edmund, 21, ranked 84 beat two seeds as he made it to the last-16 of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.

US Open: Djokovic Gets Second Walkover

However, he was outplayed from the start by the defending champion. Edmund’s exit means, Andy Murray is the only Briton left in the tournament.

Djokovic showed no signs of being rusty despite only completing six games in the past two rounds because of injuries to Jiri Vesely and Mikhail Youzhny.

US Open: Milos Raonic Shocked In Second Round, As Djokovic Advances To Third Round

The 29-year-old Serb needed treatment during the third set as the trouble he had with his upper arm in the first round flared up again.

But he came through unscathed to ensure his quest for a 13th Grand Slam title and third this year remains on track.

“It feels great to play a full match after a weird couple of days when I didn’t have too much tennis,” said Djokovic.

“I came out of the blocks with high intensity. It’s not easy to do that when you have to wait all day to play.

“I made Kyle work for each point and kept him moving around the court.”

Edmund’s run to the fourth round – the best Grand Slam performance of his career so far – included victories over 13th seed Richard Gasquet and 20th seed John Isner.

The Serb will play France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga next.

Paul Smith: Brook Has Huge Task Against Golovkin

Posted: 04 Sep 2016 11:15 PM PDT

Paul Smith believes Kell Brook (36-0) has a real challenge ahead of him, as he prepares to face Gennady Golovkin (35-0) come Saturday.

Golovkin To Fight Brook In London In September

Due to the fact that Kell Brook had to move up from welterweight to middleweight for the bout, Smith does not see the brit holding his own against the natural middleweight Kazakh, who he described as a destroyer.

Kell Brook Not Worried About Golovkin's Power

Brook weighed in at 167.8lbs compared to Golovkin’s 162.9lbs in the final WBC check-weigh on Friday before the official weigh-in.

Smith likes Brook a lot as a fighter, but he doesn't know if he can handle the big punches from the natural middleweight boxer.

Golovkin Wants Billy Saunders After Kell Brook

“He’s [Brook] certainly got the style and ability to trouble him. It is a fascinating fight in the fact that it is the weight differential between them both. If it was Golovkin moving up two weights to fight Brook then it would certainly be a very close fight but the way that Brook is moving up, he’s a naturally big lad anyway, he was always too big for welterweight.

“The fact that he is moving up to middleweight to challenge someone like Golovkin, who is absolutely frightening, feared, avoided and probably the most dangerous fighter in the world, probably out of him and [Sergey] Kovalev at the minute, so it is a massive ask for Kell Brook.”

Smith refused to write Brook off completely but again pointed to the punching power of Golovkin as critical and questioned whether the Sheffield man will be able to handle that strength over 12 rounds.

“Kell Brook has got the tools – has he got the size, the endurance and the durability to take what Gennady Golovkin is going to be giving him on Saturday night? It is a massive ask and everyone will be behind him but I don’t think you’ll be able to prepare for Golovkin and then just get in there and probably realise it is a different game when you are in there with him,” he said.

Boxing: Liam Smith Can Beat Canelo Alvarez, Says Roach

Posted: 04 Sep 2016 11:05 PM PDT

Freddie Roach believes Saul “Canelo” Alvarez could lose to undefeated Liam “Beefy” Smith come September 17.

Roach has been training the 27-year-old at his Wildcard Gym and he was impressed with the fighter.

Roach who is now a fan of the WBO middleweight champion thinks he has what it takes to give Canelo, 26, his second loss of his pro career.

"Liam Smith is a solid guy," said Roach to Fighthub.com. "He can win that fight [against Canelo]. Liam Smith is a tough, tough guy. Don't underestimate him. He's solid. He's a tough guy."

When asked what the Brit needs to do for him to beat Canelo on September 17, Roach said, "Go to war and be able to take a punch. So far, he's always done that. He's very tough and good chin. It's a great fight. I like that fight. I'll pay for that one," said Roach.

Messi To End Career At Boyhood Club Newell’s

Posted: 04 Sep 2016 11:00 PM PDT

Messi is getting adept at going back on decisions he has made. The Barcelona man had previously stated he would end his career at Barcelona, but that is no longer the case.

The Argentina international has revealed he wants to end his career at his boyhood club, Newell’s Old Boys, where he played till he was 13, before joining Barcelona.

Newell's Old Boys Confident Of Luring Lionel Messi To Argentina Before He Retires

He has gone on to win five Golden Ball awards and is considered one of the greatest footballers of all time.

“I would love to [return],” he said. “It is something I have kept an eye on because it was my dream as a child.

“Obviously my life started to change and went another way, but I have no regrets.

“It’s something I have kept an eye on. I want to play in Argentine football and Newell’s, where I grew up.”

Messi recently announced his return to international football having initially said he would retire from Argentina duty following their Copa America Centenario final defeat to Chile.

Lionel Messi Officially Retires From International Football

“It’s what I felt at that time,” he added. “At that time everything collapsed around me because we all felt that was the moment, because of how the team were and how we played each game.

“We all want to win. I have been fighting with the Seleccion and my dream is to win something.

“To get so close and not make it was a huge frustration for all of us.”

Murray – “Patience Is The Key”

Posted: 04 Sep 2016 10:54 PM PDT

Andy Murray has admitted to winning the ugly way to make it the last-16 of the US Open at the expense of Italy’s Paolo Lorenzi.

The top ranked tennis star struggled in the match, making 63 unforced errors, but managed to win 7-6 (7/4) 5-7 6-2 6-3.

And the Scot said his game improved as soon as he stopped trying to force winners.

“It took me a little bit longer than I would have liked to work things out but I won, got through, and I didn’t play good so I’m happy with that,” Murray said.

“He’s ranked 40 in the world. He’s pretty good, so I expected a tough match. I expected long rallies.

“I’m just disappointed with the amount of errors I made. I was quite impatient at times. That cost me in the first and second sets.

“When I was more patient and waited for the right balls to go for, I played much, much better and dictated more of the points. I wasn’t going for too much.

“The unforced errors came down significantly and the winners went up. The third and fourth sets were comfortable. Obviously the first two were extremely, extremely tough.”

4 Types Of Headaches You Never Knew Existed And How To Cure Them

Posted: 04 Sep 2016 09:26 PM PDT

Chances are you’ve heard of some types of headaches related to eye strains and those that are tensioned or clustered. You also most have heard about migraine headaches, caffeine-withdrawal headaches, and sinus headaches.

A lot of folks have also experienced hangover headaches and it is estimated that over 450 million of the world’s population suffer from headaches. A small group of people however suffer from a rare and unusual forms of headache.

Over a hundred types of headaches have been categorised by the International Headache Association. These different types of headaches can be differentiated by doctors with symptoms, the severity of occurrence and patient history.

Every type of headache has its own history which can help determine the specific types of tests to aid in confirming the diagnosis. The more you’re able to determine the specific features of a headache, the easier it will be for your doctor to evaluate it.

Here are four types of headaches you probably never knew existed.

Trigeminal neuralgia Headache

This pain is characterised by pain around the jaws and in the temples and is age related. The pain is very sharp and seems like an electric shock. It is triggered by certain actions such as brushing the teeth or touching the face. It is common for people with this type of headache to experience several “shock” episodes a day because of an artery pressing down on a nerve.

Doctors recommend the use of muscle relaxants to ease the pain. If a patient is however younger than 55, it could be that the headache is caused by a neurological condition such as multiple sclerosis.

Exertion Headaches
These type of headaches usually accompany any type of physical exertion such as sneezing, sex, exercise, laughing or pooping. The pressure on the spinal fluid increases briefly in the head as you bear down to do these activities and this may cause pain.

The spinal fluid pressure build up is usually no cause for concern as it takes between a few minutes to an hour to pass.

In rare cases however, it could be as a result of a blood vessel problem causing the pain especially if the headache is severe as soon as you’re done with exerting yourself physically.

Giant cell arteritis Headaches
The specific cause of this type of headache has not been identified. It is characterised by a boring, jabbing or burning pain in the head and is usually very serious.

What is known about this headache is that it is linked to inflammation and is particularly common in people that are over the age of 60. The jabbing pain in the head is also accompanied with pain around the ears, especially when chewing.

It is estimated that about 30 percent of people who have giant cell arteritis will go blind, and it is as such considered an emergency. Treatment usually consists of steroids to improve pain and prevent blindness.

Hypertension headaches
The name of this type of headache says it all. The pain has to do with an increase in your blood pressure but strangely, high blood pressure has nothing to do with this type of headache.

It is only severely high blood pressure of systolic and diastolic range 200/110 or higher that can cause this type of headache. An increase in your blood pressure also causes an elevation of the blood pressure in the brain because there is usually a restriction of blood flow to the brain.

A hypertension headache is similar to the type of pain felt when you wear a tight cap and is usually worse in the morning than any other time of the day. This type of pain can be alleviated by keeping your blood pressure under control.

#ProjectFame9.0 Nomination Show 6: A Night For Music Legends

Posted: 04 Sep 2016 09:05 PM PDT

After the outpouring of emotions from last night’s elimination show, the sixth nomination show of #ProjectFame9.0 was a beauty to behold as the contestants paid tribute to respected music legends who left a mark in the entertainment industry.

The night’s performances kicked off on a surprising and interesting note as the Academy Music Director, Ben Ogbeiwi or better known as Uncle Ben stepped on stage to pay tribute to late Afro beats maestro, Fela Anikulapo Kuti by performing his song titled Water No Get Enemy. His entertaining performance was a wonderful surprise to the audience, who didn’t expect his performance on the night.

The wonderful performances continued as the baton was passed on to the contestants who all did well with their renditions.

The first contestant on stage was Eli and he gave a good account of himself as he performed the late Lucky Dube’s song, Different Colors. His performance was followed by that of Elizabeth who sang No Woman No Cry by Bob Marley.

Winner gave an electrifying performance of the evergreen song Vulidlela by Brenda Fassie and Mirabel also did not disappoint with her rendition of Whitney Houston’s Where Do Broken Hearts Go.

Pere on his part sang Searching by OJB Jezreel, while Kitay had the audience asking for more as he sang What's Going On? by Marvin Gaye.

Dapo sang the late king of pop, Michael Jackson’s song Liberian Girl, followed by Okiemute, who was the last on stage and she sang Rehab by Amy Whinehouse.

At the end of the beautiful performances, the Judges decided to put all but three of the contestants on probation. The three contestants exempted from probation this week are Kitay, Okiemute, and Winner.

As such, Elizabeth , Dapo , Eli , Mirabel, and Pere are on probation and face the likelihood of being eliminated from the academy next weekend except they garner the highest number of votes from viewers or get saved by the judges, Faculty or fellow contestants not on probation.

US Open: Pouille Sends Nadal Packing

Posted: 04 Sep 2016 07:17 PM PDT

Rafa Nadal might be losing his touch, as Lucas Pouille eliminated him from the US Open in the fourth round.

The France tennis player was close to losing, but recovered, as he converted his fourth match point to claim a 6-1 2-6 6-4 3-6 7-6 (8-6) win.

“It took everything. I could not dream better than that,” the world number 25 said after his four-hour victory.

Pouille will play compatriot Gael Monfils, who beat Marcos Baghdatis.

The defeat means that 2016 is the first year since 2004 in which Nadal, 30, has failed to reach a Grand Slam quarter-final.

“I am close to being 100% again and I believe I can have a couple more good years,” said Nadal whose most recent Grand Slam title came with his ninth French Open in 2014.

His best runs since have been two quarter-final spots at the 2015 Australian and French Opens.

“I fought to the end today but I needed something that was not there. I will keep working to try and find it.”

Good start for Sam Allardyce

Lallana also had praise for new England manager Sam Allardyce.

"It's a great start for him [Sam] and the team. He made it very clear to us that he wanted to keep a clean sheet away from home in a World Cup qualifier.

"It was going to be tough and I also thought we were very disciplined today at times. Also as the game went on and they went down to ten men we did create the chances.

"Sometimes you've just got to stick it out until the last minute and thankfully we got the goal."

Prognosis: Between Jonathan And Buhari

Posted: 04 Sep 2016 02:22 PM PDT

Prognosis: Between Goodluck Jonathan And Muhammadu Buhari – Abdallah Muhammed Sanni

Continuity was the slogan in place of the fresh air we breathed between 2011-2015. It was indeed a real fresh air.

Just before the election, we heard from the then Super Minister that the economy was doing fine. The last bit we heard was that we were borrowing to pay salary. Little did we know that contractors all over the nation were owed in trillions of Naira and that most projects that were politically motivated were just a cover up for election score cards.

This piece was written by Abdallah Muhammed Sanni. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

The entire economy was in shambles, Nigeria was just a body without SOUL. The centre could no longer hold, we were deep into recession!

The opposition party could not pretend they never saw it either but the ultimate goal was to grab power; they have to undertake the rescue mission. Theirs was mission accomplish.

A battered nation was near collapsing. The entire world saw it, our economists that were outside the system roared and forecast the doom we are in today but they were ignored because of party affiliations. Now, the truth is open.

Let us analyze the magic wand of the then Super Minister and supposedly economic team of that administration that never saved for anything and the management of today's reality if they had continued in office.

It is obvious that the oil price would not have gone up but then the avengers would not have arisen but the stealing of oil would have doubled if not tripled. Government revenue from oil would have been worse still because the culture of stealing would have continued.

The remnant of the external reserve which as at today is still at about $28b would have been squandered. Government agencies would not have helped either. TSA would have been ignored, relaxation in tax collection, it would have been all about borrowing.

We would have been dancing with the IMF, with its obnoxious conditions and forced policies.

The Naira would have been in more shambles.

NLC, TUC, oil workers would not have been managed. Demonstrations and strikes would have been the order of the day. Schools would have been on strike. The entire country would have been in a state of comatose.

If we are buying rice today at N16,000 and hoping it will come down, it would have been worse. May be smuggling would have been the only option. We would have been in total doom economically.

The security situation pre-election as we all saw it then would have been a child's play because the I-don't-care attitude towards the life of the people of the Northeast was an eyesore and wonders would not have happened.

We would have lost that part of the country to the insurgency (The caliphate) which would have been a gateway to total disintegration of the country for those who never saw anything good in our forced marriage.

Yes, Buhari's policies are not yet yielding results. Yes, there are policy somersaults and mistakes. Yes, prices of commodities have gone up. Yes, there is recession as you wish to call it but there are plans, policies being put in place to curtail the wastes witnessed in the past and foster a new economic agenda for diversification to promote growth, to boost employment, to put infrastructure in place, provide electricity, to grow food, manufacture products, industrialise the nation, attract foreign investment, revitalise our refinery and build new ones, reduce corruption, if not totally eradicated, retrieve the stolen funds and jail the thieves and give hope and future for the next generation.

All these as I mentioned are all ongoing despite the dwindling revenue and the activities of saboteurs who have vowed to disrupt the plans because they have been displaced and being exposed and tried for mismanagement, stealing and gang-raping of our dear Nation.

Let's give kudos to this present government for being there for us and pray not to witness the recklessness, excesses, lawlessness, stealing with absolute impunity we witnessed in the past.

God bless Nigeria.

Pope Declares Mother Teresa ‘Saint’ Before A Mammoth Crowd At Vatican

Posted: 04 Sep 2016 09:41 AM PDT

Catholic nun, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, known as the "saint of the gutters," has been declared a saint in a canonization Mass held by Pope Francis in the Vatican on Sunday morning.

READ ALSO: Pope Francis Defends Muslims, Says 'It's Unfair To Link Islam With Terrorism'

During the canonization of the Albanian-born nun – who devoted her life to helping India’s poor – the Pope said St Teresa had defended the unborn, sick and abandoned, and had shamed world leaders for the “crimes of poverty they themselves created”, before huge crowds of pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City.

READ ALSO: Pope Francis Visits 7 Ex-Nigerian Prostitutes

Hand-clapping broke out before he completed the formula of canonization, in which he declared “Blessed Teresa of Kolkata to be a saint.”

Speaking in Latin, Francis said that “after due deliberation and frequent prayer for divine assistance, and having sought the counsel of many of our brother bishops, we declare and define Blessed Teresa of Kolkata to be a saint, and we enroll her among the saints, decreeing that she is to be venerated as such by the whole church.”The Pope said Mother Teresa had spent her life “bowing down before those who were spent, left to die on the side of the road, seeing in them their God-given dignity”.

He added: “She made her voice heard before the powers of the world, so that they might recognise their guilt for the crimes of poverty they themselves created.” He then repeated: “The crimes of poverty they themselves created.”

For the newly-sainted Teresa, he said, “mercy was the salt which gave flavor to her work, it was the light which shone in the darkness of the many who no longer had tears to shed for their poverty and suffering.”
She was an example to volunteers around the world, he said. “May she be your model of holiness.”
In a departure from his scripted remarks, he noted that people “may struggle” to refer to her as “Saint Teresa.” “With great spontaneity, I think we will continue to call her Mother Teresa,” he said.

Declare Fridays A Work-Free Day For Muslims Like Sundays – MURIC

The Director of Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Ishaq Akintola, has sought for an equal treatment between Christians and Muslims in Nigeria.

Speaking exclusively to The Punch, the professor of Islamic Eschatology also reacted to the Christian Association of Nigeria's criticism of the recent visit by the United States Secretary of State, John Kerry, describing it as unwarranted.

He said: "I still insist Nigeria is not a secular state. It does not recognise any religion at all. An example is the Sallah holidays. Although Christians used to enjoy Christmas and other holidays, there was no Sallah holiday for Muslims on Eid el-Fitr and Eid el-Kabir days during the colonial days. We wrenched that from our oppressors' hands after a long struggle.

"Another example where freedom has come our way is where Nigerian Christians compelled Muslims to operate Christian financial system with its riba (interest) which is haram (forbidden) for Muslims, yet they refused to allow Muslims to practise the Islamic banking until a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (now Emir of Kano), belled the cat by introducing Islamic banking.

"What exactly do I mean? Nigerian Christians have been enjoying everything they need since the British took over the country and colonised it. They have the Christian common law while they object to Muslims having Shariah. They enjoy Christo-Western education while they restrict Muslim children's access to Islamic education. Christians are free to do whatever they like on Sundays but Muslims are chained to their workplaces on Fridays. That chain must break. Freedom is our cry.

"The government supports both Christian and Muslim pilgrimages. Christian and Muslim prayers are said at official functions. The preamble of the Nigerian Constitution leans heavily on God. So, we are a multi-religious nation. It is when Christian leaders want to pull the wool over our eyes that they claim that Nigeria is a secular country.

"We must widen the horizon of the quest for self-determination. They hold Christian court or church marriage whose certificate is recognised by law whereas mosque marriage certificate is not recognised. Christian schoolchildren use Christian school uniforms but Muslim children are disallowed from using the hijab. Muslim women are denied driving licences and international passports in Nigeria on account of their use of hijab.

"There is an urgent need to straighten this lopsided system. It is not working. Nigerian Muslims still remain oppressed today because they have yet to be emancipated in the four examples above. There are more areas of oppression. But there are one or two aspects where the Muslims have been liberated.

"So you can see that it is all about struggling for liberation. It is like a master-slave affair. Those who sit on the necks of Muslims are reluctant to set them free. But we will get there whether the oppressor likes it or not. It is interesting to note that Christians know that a Muslim commits a sin each time he collects or gives riba yet they never freely allowed it. What do you call that? Do we love our neighbours?

"Do you call that freedom of religion? Isn't there some element of selfishness in that? Didn't Jesus teach loving the neighbour? I remember that a particular bishop from the East led his followers in a public demonstration against the introduction of Islamic banking. Ridiculous, isn't it?

"As for the claim that Muslims are being favoured by the present administration, that is large-scale falsehood. Even Nigerian toddlers know that Buhari is religion-blind. He is not a fanatic. He just wants to fix Nigeria.

"How has the present administration favoured Muslims? The facts are at our fingertips. Take the South-West as an example: there are six states there and each has a minister. Only Babatunde Fashola and Adebayo Shittu are Muslims. The rest are Christians. Let CAN tell us if that is not so. Do you call two out of six a favour? And that is just a tip of the iceberg in Buhari's administration.

"The parastatals are replete with Christian chief executives. But Muslims are not complaining. Nigeria now has about 35 ministers out of which only 17 are Muslims. Tell me how the present administration has favoured Muslims. Is CAN using mathematics or mathemagic?

"Personally, I believe that we are cutting our nose to spite our face in this country. We should allow government to pick the best candidates for positions in order to get maximum performance. We should not always be thinking of religious or ethnic leaning. Muslims have tried as much as possible to maintain this principle but CAN is always making a noise because of its grip on the press."

Rabiot Wants EPL Move

Posted: 04 Sep 2016 07:52 AM PDT

Paris Saint Germain midfielder, Adrien Rabiot has registered his desire to play in the EPL in the near future.

The Frenchman spent a couple of seasons with Manchester City, moving around several teams as a youth before leaving for PSG.

However, he has been unable to hold down a regular spot in the starting XI, prompting talks of him leaving the club.

And the France Under 21 international says he hopes to return to England one day, even for reasons beyond football.

“I really liked my time in England, and the life there, even outside of football,” he told Telefoot.

“I told myself that I will return one day. I have always had the desire to play in England, it is in me.

“The Premier League… that is football!”

Rabiot had been linked with clubs throughout the summer, but he says new PSG coach Unai Emery wanted to keep him, and he hopes to become an important player this term.

“I have also spoken with the coach and he told me that he is really counting on me,” he added.

“I want to prove this season that I can be an important player for the team. My ambition is to establish myself as a starter at PSG and I think that with that, international recognition with France will also come.

“Of course I am very happy at PSG and I would like to stay for a long time, to grow with the club and to become captain of the team one day, but we cannot predict how things can turn out.”

Petrol Price Increase Looms As N145/litre Is No Longer Feasible

Posted: 04 Sep 2016 07:31 AM PDT

The past and present Group Managing Directors of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) have expressed concerns that the current pump price of petrol products at N145 per litre is no longer feasible.

This assertion was made by the GMDs after a one-day meeting held with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, in Abuja.

According to them, the sum is no longer correlating well with the price-determining components of the commodity and the fluctuations of the foreign exchange rate.

A statement issued by the NNPC with respect to development, read:

"They (the GMDs) noted that the petrol price of N145/litre is not congruent with the liberalisation policy especially with the foreign exchange rate and other price determining components such as crude cost, Nigerian Ports Authority charges, etc remaining uncapped."

The statement now confirmed an exclusive report by The Punch on August 7, 2016, in which oil marketers disclosed that the actual or real cost of petrol was N151.87 when all the pricing components are adequately captured.

The oil marketers had griped that they were struggling to maintain petrol price at N145 per litre because of the stiff competition in the downstream oil sector, but stressed that the practice was not sustainable.
