Short Time: Taylor Swift Reportedly Dumps Tom Hiddleston

Taylor Swift has reportedly called time on relationship with new boyfriend, actor Tom Hiddleston.

The couple’s romance had begun in June, when they were first photographed together in public. This was barely 2 weeks after Swift’s break up with previous boyfriend, British DJ Calvin Harris.

The couple became official on social media soon after, and in July, Hiddleston confirmed they were an item.

“The truth is that Taylor Swift and I are together and we’re very happy, the Thor actor also told The Hollywood Reporter. Thanks for asking. That’s the truth. It’s not a publicity stunt.”

According to reports, Swift called time on the 3-month relationship because Hiddleston wanted a more public relationship, and she didn’t.

Recently word had it that Illbliss also known as Oga Boss quit the game, and this was following "a goodbye" Instagram post  last week by the critically acclaimed Nigerian rapper/ music executive that went "viral" spawning comments and questions from fans, bloggers and pressmen alike.

Illbliss last year 2015 after a well-received release of his third LP ( #Powerful ) stayed the course recording, performing and promoting, rejuvenating the artiste side of his brand which had taken a back seat to his other endeavours within entertainment and outside in the previous years

WAEC Relocates Candidates | NYSC Pleads For Corps Members’ Protection Ahead Of Edo Poll

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has relocated its candidates sitting for the General Certificate in Education (GCE) in Edo State on Saturday to centres in Ore, Ondo State and Agbor in Delta State, due to the governorship election that would take place that same day.

Confirming the relocation on Tuesday to pressmen, the Head, Public Affairs Unit of WAEC in Nigeria, Mr Demianus Ojijeogu, stated that the relocation was not the idea of the council, but at the instance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies.

According to him, early August, the council wrote to INEC, notifying it that the Mathematics paper would take place on Saturday (the Election Day), and requested for an exemption from the restriction on movement that would be imposed on that day, for the examination officials and the candidates.

He continued: "The next thing we saw was a letter inviting us to a meeting in Benin, Edo State. It was held in the office of the Commissioner of Police. The DIG Operations, who happened to be in the state, chaired the meeting.

"Other security agencies were there. The Resident Electoral Commissioner was there. They asked us to postpone the examination; we told them we could not postpone the examinations because of its international nature and that the integrity of the examinations cannot be compromised."

According to him, "On August 29, we got a letter from INEC telling us categorically that they cannot grant our request for exemption from restriction of movement; that we should relocate the candidates to states that are contiguous to Edo State.

"So, if INEC and security agents have told you that you can't hold the examinations in Edo State, what is left for the council to do? We looked at the contiguous states (for centres) – Delta and Ondo.

"We've gone to Ore; we've been able to get centres there. We went to Agbor in Delta State; we managed to get centres there, for candidates to relocate in order to write the examinations – still open, believing that INEC would shift ground, and that the state government would intervene and allow the candidates to write the examinations in Edo State."

Meanwhile, the Director-General, of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Sule Kazaure, has pleaded for adequate security measures for corps members who will participate in the election.

"We are soliciting for cooperation to ensure the safety of our corps members. We need adequate security for our corps members who will be participating in the process before, during and after the election," he said when he visited 4 Mechanised Brigade, Police Headquarters and Department of State Services.

Popular Businessman Michael Ibru Passes On At 86

Wealthy businessman and patriarch of the Ibru family, Michael Ibru, has passed on at the age of 86.

Michael Ibru was also the husband of former Oceanic Bank MD, Cecilia Ibru. His death was announced by the family in a statement on Tuesday morning.

His death comes barely 5 months after the death of his younger brother, Felix Ibru, who was the first democratically elected governor of Delta state.

The Ibrus are a power family in Delta state, and imprisoned former Delta governor, James Ibori has spoken about how the late Michael Ibru left his impact on businesses in Nigeria.

"In 1956, Ibru was just a 26-year-old young man, yet he had the vision and the boldness to leave the U.A.C, and started a partnership with an expatriate, Jimmy Large, which he called Laibru," Ibori said via a statement signed by Tony Eluemunor, his media assistant.

"Although this business was cornered by expatriate firms, Ibru plunged into it. He established an importing company, rented and built cold storage facilities across the country. By the mid-1960s fish business had become the traditional money maker for the Ibru organization.

"From, there, Ibru ventured into other profitable interests. He had such a Midas touch that he founded booming businesses in the fields of transportation, construction, etc."

"The greatest lesson that Michael Ibru has left for Nigerians is that fact that he saw it as a point of duty to help his siblings develop their business empires, yet, they remained as one close knit family.

"The second lesson is that a business should not necessarily be a one-man concern. Thus, Ibru went into several partnerships with different people.

"The result is that today, the Ibru Organisation is an important segment of the Nigerian economy. In fact, it is an empire that runs from fishing to air transportation, Guardian newspapers, the hospitality business. In fact, the Ibru family-owned houses must have been one of the first private Real Estate firms in Nigeria."

"Olorogun Micheal Ibru was a shrewd businessman with a good heart," the speaker of the Delta state House of Assembly, Monday Igbuya also said in a statement.

"Olorogun Michael Ibru as an international businessman, philanthropist, educator, a lover of children, and also a grassroots organizer. He was also community leader and gained the respect, trust and love of the entire country. He will be greatly missed."

Corpses Of Drowned Soldiers Of ‘Operation Crocodile Smile’ Recovered

The corpses of the drowned soldiers of the "Operation Crocodile Smile" have been recovered by local divers and military personnel in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, official said on Monday.

Confirming the recovery, the Chairman National Maritime Union, Bayelsa State Chapter, Lloyd Sese, disclosed that the tragic boat accident – that claimed the lives of four soldiers in Brass Local Government area – was due to poor logistics and use of low powered engine boats to convoy military personnel.

According to him, preliminary investigation conducted by the Brass Unit of the Maritime Union showed that the accident could have been avoided if adequate logistics were arranged with high capacity engine boats used.

He stated that "they used small boats with low capacity engines."

He called on the military authorities to consult the Maritime Union for logistics and transport during such movements.

He said: "we call on the military to consult those involved in the day to day commercial activities along the creeks and the waterways."

Earlier, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, Acting Director Army Public Relations, confirmed the boat mishap saying "we have not been able to ascertain the number of soldiers who may have lost their lives. It is quite a tragic incident."

It was learnt that all the weapons in possession of the troops at the time of the accident, including service rifles belonging to the soldiers, were also said to be missing.

Man Who Named Dog ‘Buhari’, Names Daughter ‘Aisha’

The man who was arrested for naming his dog Buhari, Mr Joachim Iroko Chinakwe has now named his daughter Aisha presumably after the president’s wife.

Mr Chinakwe was arrested last month by the police after being reported by his Northern neighbor. His neighbor was offended by the name given to his dog but was eventually released on bail.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone II, Abdulmajid Ali had in a statement said the arrest was done to prevent a likely breach of public peace. Mr Chinakwe did reveal that he had two other dogs named Obama and Joe. He also revealed that President Buhari was his role model.

This particular name however should be viewed as less offensive. This is because it is given to a human and not an animal. The name was reported by human rights activist and lawyer, Mr Inibehe Effiong via twitter.

In the List of top 10 managers in music industry who messed over their clients, managers who were greedy and the ones who thought drugs was a good escape for their artistes topped the charts. Yeah! bad managers have their charts too. We are just yet to make a list of them as far as Nigeria and Africa is concerned.

From Colonel Tom Parker who received 50% of Elvis Presley's earnings to Mathew Knowles who had the habit of stealing his daughter's money, greed is the known ailment for artiste managers. There is an ailment we all have tolerated and might just be the reason why our favorite artistes end up in rehab.

If you are an artiste manager, I know you are probably angry saying "What more could I do. That is where (s)he gets inspiration from. I also don't want to lose my job." Hollup! Hollup! Dear Angry Bird, sorry, manager, have you heard of the terminology called "Duty of Care?" I suggest you read up and learn one or two things.

The deaths of Wacko Jacko, Amy Winehouse and other notable big brand artistes have brought certain hidden questions and consequently managers’ actions and responsibilities. Managers are saddled with the responsibility to ensure their clients are in good health which includes, mental, emotional and psychological health.

I have, on many occasions, witnessed managers being their artistes’  dealers and suppliers of various kind of drugs all in the name of trippy state of mind and getting inspiration. I have also asked some managers if the artiste was their siblings, if they would indulge such – The Layman Test. Most managers failed it.

We will all agree that in Nigeria, substance abuse is prevalent in all sorts of professions (Law and Medicine included) so why do we focus on artistes alone? The answer is embedded in the words of Uncle Ben to Peter Parker "With great power comes great responsibility".

Some managers are exacerbated by the fear that their client might not be able to perform both literally and creatively without the aid of these "drugs". In the words of a prolific Hollywood reporter he responded to this saying: "It’s no surprise they choose to ignore the huge amount of time-wasting their addiction is responsible for (let alone how drugs and alcohol can make you think you’re writing something great when it’s actually rubbish).

While we blame managers and also put guns to their hands holding them accountable for the wreckage of their client's health and career. We all (including fans except Justin Bieber's. LMAO) become culpable by glorifying drug addiction among artists and praising.

I know some readers also have this to express: "How many artists do you know who created their best work after getting clean?”

So here is a response from another renowned world-class manager to your question: "I know plenty of artists who descended into drug abuse and never created anything worthwhile again, if they created anything. I know plenty of artists hooked on drink and/or drugs who never produced anything worthwhile at all, and I know plenty of artists who never abused drink or drugs – and yet they created great music. Even the greatest artists have only a few truly great albums in them. The ones who have more are usually extremely productive during a relatively short time (Stevie Wonder and David Bowie come to mind)."

Managers need to agree that they carry a responsibility which is the “duty of care” — acknowledging addiction as a disease and how it can back fire on their client. We haven't really had artistes in Nigeria who have died from overdose but we have a quite alarming number of artistes whom drugs have taken out of their glory. Managers are truly the ones who can save artistes from their destructive lifestyle and they must take it as a responsibility.

Teenager Targeting Ex-Boyfriend Sets Fire To Wrong Car

A 19-year-old woman has been charged with second degree arson in Florida after she set fire to a car she mistakenly thought belonged to her ex-boyfriend.

Carmen Chamblee was arrested by police in Clearwater, Florida on the morning of September 3 and was taken to Pinellas County jail.

Spurned girlfriend burns wrong car

She told detectives that she thought the car belonged to her ex-boyfriend. But apparently, she set the wrong car on fire.

The incident which occurred on August 26th was caught on a surveillance camera. It also shows Chamblee stoking the fire which had engulfed the trunk of the car. After committing the act, she finally fled the scene on a bicycle.

Interview with Lani Aisida, Screenwriter of Toronto Film Festival Feature JUST NOT MARRIED

Lani Aisida is one of those new entrants into Nollywood already making a name for themselves and its no wonder when you take a look at what he’s achieved since he appeared on the scene in 2014. In addition to working with some good acts, he recently managed to pull off a commendable feat by having two movies (Gone Grey & Just Not Married) showing in cinemas at the same time.

The screenwriter recently had a chat with 360nobs where he talked about how he got into the movie industry, his movie Just Not Married which was selected as one of the movies in this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and which projects he hopes to work on next.

How did you get into the Nigerian movie industry and what were you doing before that?

I’ve been involved in quite a few things. When I came back to Nigeria, I used to organise an entertainment night weekly called ‘talents @ gidi(t@g), and I managed artistes. Also, I worked as a Financial Analyst with a large company before quitting to be a full-time writer.
When I worked in a call centre in UK, I thought it will be great to have a tv series based on a call centre, all the interesting characters you speak with on a daily basis. I met with Soji Ogunnaike and shared the idea with him  we developed it and shot my first ever screenplay – Plus 234

Lani, you are now a screenwriter with movies opening in cinemas. Where did you get your start?

In a relative short amount of time, I’ll say it has been favour and hard work. After writing plus 234, I reached out to several producers and shared some of my spec scripts with them and here I am. I’ve written for several platforms – tv, web, cinema, stage et al. It has been a great experience.

How did your first screenplay go?

My first screenplay was plus 234. To write 13 episodes as an amateur was quite tasking. I remember the first draft I wrote was in Microsoft Word and very unprofessional. But a few books and YouTube videos later, I’m further down on my learning curve.

Let’s talk about the Just Not Married which was recently selected for this year’s TIFF, how did you develop the screenplay?

It is a movie that came in bits. First, the robbery concept, when I was driving sometime in Lagos. Then I built it gradually, the love story and other plots.

What made Uduak–Obong Patrick the right director for Just Not Married?

My initial communication was with the producer, Judith Audu, who happens to be a story person. I shared the script with her and she loved it. I met Uduak at the reading and I was very impressed with how well he understood the story and guided the actors through it. He enhanced the story by adding elements to it.

What was the most challenging scene to write in this script?

Hmmm … I’ll say, the scene where one of the characters died. I wanted to draw as much emotion from there as possible without doing too much. I wanted to take the audience from a high to a real low. I think the production team pulled it off.

You currently have another movie showing in cinemas titled ‘Gone Grey’. How does that feel having two movies screening in cinemas and how did you pull that off?

It is a great feeling to have two movies showing in cinema at the same time. Some people tell me it’s the first time a writer will have two movies in Nigeria cinema at the same time, if true, I’m proud of that.
Honestly, I’m just happy to have two movies that have made it to the cinema and several movies to my name in a relative short amount of time. How I pulled it off? Hustle & Favour with God and man.

Some screenwriters have been known to be on the set during the filming of their movie, was that the case with you?

I like to go on set once in a while. I like to see how actors deliver their lines as it helps me write better dialogues. I was on set briefly for ‘Just Not Married’ and I enjoyed every minute.

I’m on set for our productions at Rushing Tap.

You've worked with different directors so far. Are they all very different? Was going through a script with Obong Patrick very different from going through a script with, say, Sobe Charles with whom you worked on Gone Grey?

Every director is different and have their own style of working. All the directors I have worked with so far are story people and usually enhance the written words.

Is there a passion project that you have in mind but for some reason hasn’t come to fruition?

Definitely. I have a certain biopic in mind and I’m working hard to get the permission. It is a movie that will draw young Nigeria to the cinemas an

What is the new movie or TV project you have in the pipeline?

I’m always writing. I like to have spec scripts available. I create tv series concepts and write the pilot down as well.

And, I’m working on a few projects now though I’m not at liberty to name just yet.

Whats your ultimate goal as a screenwriter, the Oscars, AMVCA, etc?

I will like to win awards at home and internationally. However, more importantly, I want to be remembered long after I’m gone. I want to write timeless movies with storylines and dialogues that travel across continents.

All Is Fair In Love, War, and the Nigerian Way of Life, By Uddin Ifeanyi

When, recently, the Emir of Kano weighed in on the parlous state of the domestic economy, the obstreperousness of the response to his contribution threatened to drown out the pith of his message. Still, step back a wee bit from the new tribal structures that have emerged around the competence (or lack thereof) of the incumbent federal government, and many of the sub-themes in the emir's message invite a second look.

That our elite is largely rentier in its nature and composition is a well-known fact. Very few really affluent Nigerians (in the country) are invested in the economy in any sense. Most simply leverage their crippling hold on the institutions of the state to create huge profits for themselves without returning any value to society. The coterie that pretends to enterprise, on the other hand, is the willing beneficiary of government cosseting at levels that burden all whom of necessity must access their services, or consume their products.

Within this context, the emir only underlined the new means of access to unearned income in the country today: secure foreign exchange at the official rate (US$1/N199 before the central bank grudgingly freed prices in the interbank market), and proceed to sell the same allocation at the parallel market (where our benighted national currency then traded at circa US$1/N350). Depending on the volume of dollars one had access to, then, you could literally, make a billion naira without leaving the comfort of your patio.

For as long as the arbitrage window has existed between the official and parallel markets, this has been the case. Indeed, it was so, even when the emir was governor of the central bank. With this little difference: that a more buoyant market for crude oil meant that the apex bank was then able, with dollars still flowing into the gross external reserves (unlike now) to meet most domestic demand for the dollar; and so the window between the official and parallel market was thinner. Even then, for the well connected, there was still money to be made.

However, our elite have always made money from access to the instrument of the state. Way back in 1965, the federal minister of aviation, a certain Dr. Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe, (yes, he of the "timber and calibre" fame, but then) a "pragmatic socialist" owned up to having earned "chicken-feed rental" from first having had his company lease land off the federal government, and subsequently sub-leasing the same property to another government agency for like twice the rent he had initially paid. By the early 1980s, rent was most readily obtained from access to import licensing schemes. By the turn of the decade, the main source of rent after the many oil schemes was the waiver on imports. Simply, government bans the importation of some commodity, and grants to a favourite waivers on bringing the same goods in.

Evidently, there is this huge difference between the affluent here, and in economies that work. Ours do not simply fail to create any value, but by their existence are a large financial drain on the economy. By the same token, our poor and indigent differ from the poor and indigent in other places. In these other jurisdictions, much of the new narrative is around how the returns to capital are increasingly larger than that to labour, and how dwindling productivity means that few workers are able to ask for more than this dwindling share. Consequently, the main policy challenge in such places is how to deal with the growth of relative poverty.

Here, the poor are the direct consequence of the affluence of a few. So whereas better education of workers generally (but of the unskilled more especially) is put forward as a solution to the crisis of productivity facing developed economies in Europe and North America, here social infrastructure has failed because the elite must maintain their rent.

Put this way, therefore, our main policy goal ought to be the dismantling of the structures that conduce to profitable rent-seeking conduct. This problem is easier described than solved though. Over five decades ago, Chief Kolawole Balogun, counsel to the NCNC, Dr. K. O. Mbadiwe's party, justified the latter's malfeasance by arguing that "All top Nigerian ministers, parliamentarians, top civil servants, journalists,…indulge in these transactions." It was, according to him, "the Nigerian way of life as it exists today, where everybody regards it as fair to make money."

Alas, not much has changed since then!

Brook: The Crowd Give Me Energy

Kell Brook will draw on the energy of his home crowd when he faces Gennady Golovkin on September 10, the boxer has said.

The undefeated British boxer got a taste of the reception he’ll receive as he took part in a public workout.

Kell Brook Not Worried About Golovkin's Power

Brook followed Golovkin, the unbeaten WBA Super, WBC and IBF world middleweight champion, into the temporary ring with cheers from the packed crowd ringing in his ears.

“These are my people, these are my fans,” he told Sky Sports News HQ.

“They have arrived to see an amazing night on Saturday night. I’m drawing energy from these people and this is what I want to do. This is it. This feeling that I’m feeling now is amazing. Every single day I am a step closer to doing something very special.

“I am a joy to be around, even to train. I’m pushing myself every day and I’m making history in this fight.

“This is an amazing fight for me. I can’t go back to those fights I had before – they have to be mega-fights. The attention we’ve had everywhere I have gone is so exciting and that buzzes me up and makes me just want to set off running.

“I’m so energised with the people, with the excitement of this one. I’m ready to go.”

Howedes Does Not Fear Muller

Benedikt Howedes is insisting he doesn’t fear Thomas Muller ahead of Schalke’s match against Bayern Munich.

The Bayern Munich man struggled in the Euro 2016, but scored twice and set up a goal in the 3-0 win over Norway.

Nevertheless, Howedes says that his Germany team-mate’s return to form does not give him sleepless nights.

“I do not fear Muller,” Howedes told Bild. “It’s not like I am playing against him by myself.

“But we all know Bayern are the best team in Germany. We have to put in a much better performance than against Eintracht Frankfurt.”

Muller, meanwhile, has promised that Howedes he is in for a difficult game on Friday.

“Benedikt and I have been exchanging plenty of words over the past few days,” the forward added. “I can only say that we have big plans for Friday. It will not be easy for him.

“I never doubted my finishing skills. There are always moments where things don’t work out but I am calm and confident again.”

Alvaro Arbeloa Reveals He Had Talks With AC Milan Before Deciding To Join West Ham

​Alvaro Arbeloa has revealed that he held talks with AC Milan before joining West Ham.

The Spanish full-back penned a one-year deal with the Hammers on deadline day, having left Real Madrid when his contract expired at the end of June.

He was asked about interest in him from Milan on Spanish radio station Cadena COPE and replied: "There were quite advanced talks, [but] everything became complicated with the arrival of the [new] Chinese [owners at Milan] and I preferred something else."

He signed for West Ham two full months after ending his seven-year spell at Real Madrid and admits choosing a new club was a difficult decision.

He added: "I took a long time to make a decision because I wanted to be convinced. When you leave Real Madrid it is very difficult, it is difficult to choose, it's like leaving heaven and finding a destination on earth. But the club, the city and the coach convinced me. I had various offers from Spain, but over there I could only wear the shirt of Real Madrid."

Marc Bartra Has No Regrets Over Quitting Barcelona For Borussia Dortmund

​Marc Bartra insists he does not regret his decision to leave Barcelona for Borussia Dortmund earlier this year.

Bartra, who came through the ranks at Barca, finally ended his lengthy association with the La Liga champions in June when he joined Dortmund in an €8m deal.

Discussing his transfer on RAC1, he said: "For me it was a difficult change, one of the most important ones that I have made in my life and among the best that I have taken. Now that I think about it, I do not regret leaving Barcelona."

“It was very satisfying to be part of Barcelona, but I feel very excited to be able to keep developing [at Borussia Dortmund].

“Everything has gone very quick. There are many new things to learn, including a new language, and I almost do not have time to think because there are many league and cup games.”
