Nigerian Defence Academy: How To Gain Admission, Courses And Requirements

In the wake of rising insecurities in Nigeria and the world at large, the military, which is the strength of any country, rise up to the challenge. I see many youths wanting to know how to gain admission into Nigerian Defence Academy, their requirements.
INTRODUCTION
The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna was established on 5 February 1964 in response to the defence needs of independent Nigeria to train officers for the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Before then, the institution was known as the Royal Military Forces Training College (RMFTC). After independence in 1960, it became known as the Nigerian Military Training College.
The role of the Academy is to provide each officer cadet with knowledge, skills and values necessary to meet the requirements of a military officer through military, academic and character development. In essence, the NDA is an institution where selected young able-bodied men and women are groomed into well-educated, courageous, virile and erudite subalterns.
Nigerian Defence Academy is broken into three different arms

1. The Nigerian Army (NA)
2. The Nigerian Navy (NN)
3. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF)

The candidate must meet the following admission requirements:

1. Minimum of 5 credit passes with English and Mathematics at the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination conducted by the West Africa Examination Council or National Examination Commission or General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level obtained in not more than 2 sittings relevant to the Faculty of their choices.
2. Not less than two supporting relevant credits to the compulsory credits in Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Faculty of Science. However, only one supporting relevant credit is required in the Faculty of Engineering.
3. The candidate must be at least 17 years old in the year of his or her application and not more than 21 years old at the time of entry into the Academy.
4. Nigerian Air Force candidates must be between 17 and 18 years old at entry. Must not be less than 1.68 metres tall for male and 1.50 metres for female.
5. Any candidate applying for a course in NDA must be medically and physically fit and must be of good moral character because he or she will definitely be tested.
6. Upon application, the candidate must be single male or female without legal obligation to support any child or other individuals.
7. Presentation of an original certificate of origin obtained from a Local Government is a prerequisite.
8. An original certificate of State indigeneship from the Office of the State Governor is desirable.
9. Lastly, the candidates usually are required to present a high ranking military officer from either the army, navy or airforce as a referee during application.

It would be nice to know that candidates awaiting results are not qualified and only examination results of not more than 5 years before the date of application are acceptable.

Nigerian Defence Academy Courses And Admission Requirements

There are three faculties in the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) that candidates can select from as seen below. This depends on the field they want to specialise in. The NDA is usually a 5 year programme, 4 years of educational activities and the remaining 1 year of military activities and specialization. Here the candidates can decide the arm of the force he or wishes to specialise in, be it the Army, Navy or Airforce.
